FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions:

What can I expect in the first session when I see a therapist?

The first visit is a consultation and a time in which the therapist gathers information about the client and their desired outcome for therapy. Because the first session is not really a "process" session, the second session is offered free of charge.

What is an LPC Intern?

An LPC Intern is a licensed professional counselor who practices under the supervision of an LPC Supervisor. An LPC Intern provides the same high quality care as a fully-licensed counselor, but is in the process of completing required post-graduate hours before practicing independently. Because of this, Kristi can offer you more affordable rates compared to many other counselors. Kristi is licensed by the State of Texas to diagnose and treat any life issue or mental disorder using psychotherapeutic methods.

How long does a session last?

A session lasts 50 minutes, generally starting on the hour and wrapping up 10 minutes before the next hour. Clients usually arrive a few minutes early to fill out a short progress form.

What is a Counselor?

Generally speaking, “counselors use professional knowledge and skills to assist people who are experiencing life changes. Counselors may help others with concerns that include stress, loss, career, relationships and other personal issues. Some individuals may be struggling with mental illnesses while others are dealing with common life changes.” (Schweiger, Henderson, McCaskill, Clawson, and Collins, 2011, pp. 5)
